Located few kilometers from Nathang Valley at an altitude of 13700 feet, this abandoned Army Bunker perched on a strategic point gives a complete 360 degree unhindered view of the Eastern Himalayas. The whole range of Mt. Kanchenjungha and the distant peaks of the Tibetan plateau, China, Western Bhutan, Plains of Bengal with towns like Darjeeling and mighty Bramhaputra River – everything surrounds you. Watching sunrise over Mt. Kanchenjungha from Eagle’s Nest Bunker is an unforgettable experience.
The sun rises from the horizon of China and Bhutan over the Tsangpo River (the Chinese name for Bramhaputra River) and within moments washes across the horizon and you to reach the peaks of Mt. Kanchenjungha and you can actually experience this whole phenomenon. The Bramhaputra River meanders across the distant plains like a golden ribbon.
The Eagle’s Nest Bunker is also quite an interesting point by itself. Being an army bunker there is a trench around it and you would find plenty of bullet marks on its walls. To reach Eagle’s Nest Bunker, you have to walk around 10 minutes from its base.
